In the Vaastu tradition, a home is read as a compass of five elements. Each direction carries an intention — clarity, abundance, union, ground. We compose our plants to that map, so a corner is never simply filled, but tuned.

Pancha Bhoota
Earth, water, fire, air and ether. Every direction of a home leans toward one of them — and a plant, chosen well, leans the same way.

01 — North-East
ईशान
Water · जल
The Sanctum — Clarity & stillness
The most sacred corner of a home. Kept light, uncluttered and low — small, fine-leaved plants for the place where you study, meditate or simply pause.
Placement · Set in the north-east of a room, ideally near where morning light enters. Keep the corner sparse — one or two pieces, nothing tall.
02 — East

Air & Light · वायु
New Beginnings — Health & fresh energy
The direction of the rising sun — of beginnings, vitality and open breath. Trailing, easy growers that move with the air and lift the everyday rooms of a house.
Placement · The east or north of living rooms and balconies. Let trailing forms hang free so air can move around them.
03 — South-East
आग्नेय
Fire · अग्नि
The Prosperity Corner — Abundance & flow
The fire corner — long held as the seat of wealth and movement. The money-plant lineage and lush, coin-leaved growers, placed where prosperity is invited to gather.
Placement · The south-east of a home or workspace. Money plants are happiest climbing or trailing upward — never left to droop toward the floor.
04 — South-West
नैऋत्य
Earth · पृथ्वी
The Heart — Love & union
The corner of relationships and loyalty. Our heart-leaf Hoyas — soft, rounded, thornless — carry an easy story of togetherness. A single heart leaf is a quiet way to say it.
Placement · The south-west, or the bedroom shared by a couple. Heart-leaf forms are gentle by nature — keep them in pairs where you can.
05 — South
दक्षिण
Earth · पृथ्वी
The Anchor — Grounding & strength
Heavier, fuller, single-stemmed forms that hold a room down and give it weight. The south and south-west ask for plants with presence — never the delicate or the trailing.
Placement · The south or south-west, against a solid wall. Choose the fullest, most substantial pieces here.
The Other Half of the Tradition
What is kept outside
A system is as much what it excludes. These are loved on terraces and boundary walls — rarely in the living heart of a home.
Thorny & sharp
Cactus and spined succulents are kept to terraces and boundaries, not living rooms — sharp forms are read as sharp energy.
Stunted forms
Bonsai, however beautiful, sit uneasily indoors in the tradition: growth deliberately held back.
Milky-sap plants
Plants that bleed white sap are traditionally kept outside the main living spaces.
